Into the Mystic..

All smiles as we set sail

We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

Van Morrison,  Into the Mystic

Van Morrison is a fantastic lyricist and musician.  His music moves so many and his lyrics can be interpreted in multiple ways.  To us, his greatest song ever, Into the Mystic perfectly captures the feeling of setting sail toward the horizon- the brilliant colors as the sun dances on the ocean, the feel and smell of salty, sea air, the sounds of the wind and waves and the feeling of possibility and excitement.  Life doesn’t have to be something that happens to you, it can be what you make it!

We have cast off our lines and set sail from the chaos and noise of the shipyard and are now anchored on the western side of Grenada overlooking picturesque St. Georges.  It is the quintessential island town with houses neatly perched on a steep hill all in tropical colors. At night the thousands of lights twinkle across the anchorage and the sounds and smells of island life can be heard. The charcoal smells of bbq ptis being lit, the goats and chickens and dogs, the sweet smells of West Indian curry and always the thumping sounds of reggae being blasted from a passing car or beach party.

From our anchorage perch a half mile away, we are taking it all in with large smiles.

 Ahh.. we have arrived.
